This wear reduces the clearance between the camshaft and the rocker arm or lifter. In extreme cases, as observed in this Triton, there can be no clearance at all, or worse, the valve might remain open. This loss of clearance adversely affects the vehicle’s compression, starting ability, engine performance, and can even increase fuel consumption, risking irreparable damage to the valve train components.
